The simplest method of clearing an obstructed airway involves reaching a finger into the back of the person's throat. If you can see into the person's mouth, you may be able to see the cause of the blockage. If you can, sweep your finger around the person's mouth to remove the obstruction. Be careful not to push the object deeper into the airway. Do not perform a finger sweep in children unless an object is visible.
